The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 [1], Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 [2], Amendment Regulation 2010 [3] and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 [4] require an employer to carry out a fire risk assessment and eliminate risk (where possible) or put controls in place to minimise risk (e.g. fire fighting equipment and ensuring clear emergency exits).
The duty holder (e.g. the employer) is responsible for compliance with the legislation [2,3]. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is the body responsible of enforcing the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 [1] for most non-domestic premises. The SFRS may visit your premises to ensure that you have taken the necessary precautions to manage fire hazards within the practice [5].
