All staff, both clinical and non-clinical, need to understand the importance of infection control in preventing transmission of infection and be trained in infection control appropriate to their role. Training should be given at induction and reviewed and updated on an annual basis. All training should be documented. Currently, members of staff who are GDC registrants must complete 5 hours of decontamination training in each five-year CPD cycle. NHS Education for Scotland (NES) via TURAS provide a variety of forms of training and education in various aspects of infection prevention and control.

Ensure all staff receive training in aspects of infection control relevant to their role at induction and that their training is reviewed and updated on an annual basis.

Keep a record of all training.

Keep abreast of developments within Infection Control and arrange training for staff (e.g. Quality Improvement in Practice Training : Infection Control and Decontamination provided by NHS Education for Scotland).

Review and update your Infection Control policy/ies and procedures on a regular basis and communicate these to staff (e.g. at practice meetings).
