Welcome to the
SDCEP Practice Support Manual

The ‘Practice Support Manual’ (PSM) supports practice management and organisation in primary dental care in Scotland by providing up-to-date advice on a range of topics that are essential for running a dental practice (see Content).

The PSM is provided by the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme, supported by NHS Education for Scotland.  For more information about the PSM see About or watch a video introduction.

Why use the PSM?

The PSM aims to help dental teams keep up to date with legislation and professional regulations, prepare successfully for practice inspection and carry out best practice.

Brief background information and 'actions for the dental team' are provided for each topic. Checklists and templates are provided as optional tools to aid practice management.

Who is the PSM for?

The PSM is written primarily for principal dentists and practice managers responsible for managing a dental practice. However, the smooth running of a dental practice involves the whole team, and so the content is relevant to all team members.

The PSM is freely available to the dental profession in Scotland. If you do not work in Scotland and are interested in being able to access the PSM please contact the SDCEP office or use the feedback form.
